Job Description
The Head of School will be required to set the direction of the School within the wider mission of the Faculty and University and to lead and manage the School in meeting its strategic goals. The successful candidate must provide academic and research leadership, by positioning the School appropriately in local, national, regional and global contexts. S/he will be responsible for the financial management, human resource management and administration of the School. The standard period of employment is five years after which the candidate may seek another term or be integrated into a senior teaching and research position in the School, or, if the appointee is an existing member of the permanent staff, s/he will revert to her/his previous academic position
Inherent Criteria
- The applicant should have appropriate academic qualifications, a relevant doctoral degree, and a professional qualification.
- S/he should demonstrate a track record of visionary leadership and hands-on management experience within a university and/or other organization in the field of Education.
- S/he should have proven teaching experience at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- S/he should also demonstrate passion for the improvement for teaching and learning and active research activities in teacher education and the field of education more generally.
- In order to command the respect and confidence of the School, the Head should also have standing in the field, with both academic and professional experience.
- A good understanding and knowledge of the South African educational environment would be highly recommended.
