Background to Position
Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) offers professional health sciences training and education in a range of fields through excellence in teaching, learning, innovative research and community engagement. SMU is situated in Ga-Rankuwa (North of Pretoria) and the following position(s) is/are currently available:
The School of Medicine is looking for an energetic individual with meticulous attention to detail who will be responsible for teaching, learning and research within the Department of Physiology. The incumbent will report to the HOD, and must meet the requirements, competencies and be responsible for the key performance areas below.
Job Description
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Teach at undergraduate and supervise postgraduate level
- Co-ordinate undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
- Develop undergraduate and post graduate modules, and perform individual research
- Participate in departmental research activities
- Publish research articles in SAPSE accredited journals and present papers at scientific conferences
- Act as a research project leader and conduct appropriate research independently or in collaboration with colleagues within the university in line with University’s strategic objectives
- Contribute to the overall development of SMU and actively improve institutional culture
- Perform any other academic and research duties as maybe assigned by the HOD and/or Dean of School
Inherent Criteria
REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer:
- A Masters degree in Physiology or Biochemistry or equivalent qualification
- At least two (2) years’ experience in the discipline of Human Physiology
- Research experience
- An interest to enrolling in further postgraduate studies will be a strong recommendation
- Experience in navigating online platforms such as BlackBoard Collaborate, Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams
- Ability to teach (using Blended learning) at all levels Willing and able to work beyond normal working hour

- Technical/professional knowledge and skills, with a sound knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, Internet and competency of ITS
