Background to Position

Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is an academic institution that offers professional health sciences training and education in a range of fields through excellence in teaching, learning, innovative research and community engagement. SMU is situated in GaRankuwa (North of Pretoria) and the following position(s) is/are currently available:

The School of Medicine is looking for an energetic individual with meticulous attention to detail who will be responsible for teaching, learning, research and community engagement within the Department of Chemical Pathology. The incumbent will report to the HOD, and must meet the requirements, competencies and be responsible for the key performance areas below.

Job Description

Key Performance Areas

  • Acts as a Research project leader and conducts appropriate research independently or in collaboration with colleagues within the university in line with University’s strategic objectives
  • Provides postgraduate students with in-depth advanced training and a broad understanding of the subject area, as well as statistical and experimental training (where applicable)
  • Teaching under-graduate and postgraduate students
  • Produces scientifically supported reports for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Writes articles for peer-reviewed journals and presents papers at scientific conferences
  • Contribute to the overall development of SMU and actively improve institutional culture
  • Carry out other functions as may be required by the HOD

Inherent Criteria

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD/Doctorate in Medical Science (Chemical Pathology)
  • At least three (3) to five(5) years teaching experience
  • Evidence in managing a research program and some publications in accredited journal/s
  • Evidence of postgraduate research supervision
  • Sound research background
  • Experience in navigating online with the application of Black Board Collaborate, Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams
