Job Purpose

Part-time Lecturer- Afrikaans (Language) and Academic Literacy Department of Senior and FET Phase, Faculty of Education. (not exceeding 24 hours per month as a rate of R275 per month).

Job Description

RECOMMENDATIONS:

·         Knowledge and understanding of the importance and challenges of Senior and FET teaching in the 21st century

·         Experience in the planning, designing and editing of teaching and learning materials (including electronic)

·        Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

·         Teaching in the Senior and FET Phase from First to Fourth year level

·         Learning materials design and preparation

·         Assessment, marking and uploading of student marks

·         Coaching and mentoring students

·         Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department

Competencies:

·         Excellent teaching skills

·         Excellent communication in Afrikaans

·         Sound administrative and technical skills

·         Academic management skills

·         Mentoring and support for students

·         Adaptability

·         Planning and organizing skills

·         Knowledge of education (and language) policies nationally (including CAPS)

·         Ability to work in a team

·         Computer Skills  

Inherent Criteria

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

·         A relevant Master's degree in Education

·         Afrikaans as a major subject at Bachelor’s level

·         A relevant teaching qualification

·         At least five (5) years’ recent experience in teaching Afrikaans Home Language at school level or two (2) years teaching the subject at           tertiary level

·         Knowledge, understanding and experience in the preparation and evaluation of meaningful teaching experiences for Senior and FET                 Phase students

·         Knowledge of academic literacy
