Background to Position
Job Purpose:
To lecture and contribute to curriculum development in undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Marine Science, while providing support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in teaching and learning, work integrated learning, research, and community engagement.
Job Description
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities:
- Teach the subjects: Marine Science I-III and Marine Technology, Physical Oceanography, Ocean Instrumentation, and other subjects related to Marine Science offered by the Department of Conservation and Marine Sciences at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department
- Participate in curriculum development
- Perform student assessment
- Participate in research
- Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
- Monitor and assess work integrated learning
- Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies
- Assist with marketing and recruitment activities
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
Inherent Criteria
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Masters degree in Marine Science / Physical Oceanography (Base qualification: Oceanography)
- At least two years’ relevant working experience, one of which must be in teaching in a tertiary institution
