Job Description

SENIOR LECTURER

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Teach across broad areas of Applied Linguistics / English Language at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Mentor junior members of staff and postgraduate students (responsibility for a senior lecturer)
  • Develop and innovate teaching methods and curricula
  • Participate in appropriate community engagement projects identified by the department, the faculty and the University
  • Produce scholarly publications in the field of Applied Linguistics / English Language
  • Participate and contribute to departmental, faculty and University administrative committees and responsibilities

LECTURER:

Inherent Criteria

SENIOR LECTURER

Minimum requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics / English Language
  • Basic theoretical knowledge of the field ((Honours Degree in Linguistics / English Language).
  • 5 years teaching experience in a higher education environment, OR, 5 years postdoctoral experience in a higher education environment including undergraduate teaching.
  • Evidence of scholarly publishing
  • Experience of postgraduate supervision

Added advantages:

  • NRF research rating.
  • A qualification in higher education teaching and learning or progress towards such a qualification or a module in assessment and moderation of student learning.
  • Evidence of appropriate community engagements.
  • Ability to conduct online teaching and assessments

    LECTURER:

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics / English Language
    • 2 years’ experience in the academic environment 

    Additional requirements:

    • PhD or registration towards a PhD in Applied Linguistics / English Language
