The University of Fort Hare is a vibrant, equitable and sustainable African University, committed to teaching and research excellence at the service of its students, scholars and the wider community.  The University of Fort Hare is seeking applications from appropriately qualified and experienced candidates for the post of Technical Specialist in the Division of Investigation, Vetting, and Protection Services.

 MAIN PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE:

The main purpose of this position is to effectively coordinate and ensure the successful installation, support, repair, and 100% maintenance of all Electronic Integrated Security systems within the institution and performs any other duties as required and instructed by the university.

Job Description

Key Performance Areas:

  • Coordinate and supervise security system technicians and control room supervisor/operators.
  • Conduct installations and repairs on CCTV systems, access control and other security related equipment.
  • Maintenance of cameras and all integrated security systems.
  • Installation and configuration of CCTV & Access Control products.
  • Compliance with the installation standard required as per client's agreement.
  • Maintaining all Service Level Agreements.
  • Maintenance/fault finding for all the company’s CCTV and access control products.
  • Submit weekly/ monthly reports on all related activities. ·
  • Maintain good housekeeping in the workshops workstations.
  • Completion of job cards and relevant admin work.
  • Conduct site inspections and assessments and provide feedback in a report format.
  • Understanding of PC and server operating systems.
  • The position will be based in Alice Campus although the incumbent is expected to render services across all campuses.

Inherent Criteria

Minimum Requirements: 

  • M + 3 year Diploma in IT/ Computer Science/ Degree in IT or any other related qualification. M+4-related degrees will be an added advantage.
  • Valid Grade B PSIRA/ willing to complete PSIRA Grade B within 6 months of employment.
  • Required to work irregular hours, including after-hours and weekends.
  • Driver’s license.
  • Must have a clean criminal record.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of Technical relevant experience in CCTV and security systems.
  • Experience with Higher Education Sector would be an added advantage.
  • Installation, commissioning, and service experience.
  • Be able to liaise and work with third-party companies and suppliers when required to provide support.
  • Have proven experience with IP and analogue systems.
  • Have proven experience in CCTV and access control, with relevant certifications

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the Protection Security services unit and an understanding of the University’s operational environment.
  • Knowledge of integrated security systems.
  • Knowledge of the CCTV.
  • Knowledge of Troubleshooting and configurations.
  • Overarching knowledge of Wifi and LAN networks.
  • Knowledge of installations of software related to security monitoring.
  • Knowledge of biometric control systems.
  • Knowledge of access control cards and their systems.
  • Be able to work without supervision and be able to perform effectively.
  • Have good time management skills.
