The University of Fort Hare seeks to appoint a Professor/Associate Professor /Senior Lecturer / Lecturer of Speech-Language Pathology/Therapy in the Department of Rehabilitative Sciences on a permanent basis.

Job Description

Responsibilities commensurate with academic rank level being applied for: 

  • Provide academic leadership in research and teaching, including curriculum design, development and implementation. 
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate programs. 
  • Develop postgraduate programs and supervise students.
  • Publish academic research according to Senate approved norms. 
  • Participate in community engagement integrated with teaching and/or research. 
  • Perform academic leadership and related administrative duties.
  • Secure external research grants and establish research programmes. 

Inherent Criteria

Minimum requirements:

  • Doctoral Degree for Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and full Professor post; or Masters Degree for Lecturer post with plans for Doctoral Degree Registration; and with professional qualification(s) and research specialization in Speech-Language Pathology/Therapy for all academic rank levels
  • Professional registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa in the category of Speech Therapist
  • At least two years clinical experience
  • At least 10 years’ experience in higher education for a full Professor / 7 years for Associate Professor /5 years for a Senior Lecturer / 3 years for a Lecturer; including, academic and clinical teaching, curriculum development and research experience in Speech-Language Pathology/Therapy commensurate with the academic rank being applied for.
  • Track record of Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) accredited research publications commensurate with the academic rank being applied for.
  • Successful postgraduate supervision, including Masters and Doctoral supervision, commensurate with the academic rank being applied for.

Additional Requirements commensurate with the academic rank level being applied for:

  • Evidence of successful fundraising for research-related activities in the field of Speech- Language Pathology/Therapy.
  • Evidence of academic leadership and administration experience.
  • Evidence of attracting, mentoring, and supporting emerging researchers or early career academics, and post-doctoral fellows for professor level posts.
  • Evidence of professional and academic standing in the field of Speech-Language Pathology/Therapy. 
  • Recognition as a leading scholar in a chosen area of research for professor level posts (e.g. NRF rating; international keynote/plenaries).
  • Track record of professional and research networking within Speech-Language Pathology/Therapy
  • Track record and commitment to transformation in the profession and in Higher Education.
