It seeks to recruit and appoint a suitable qualified and experienced candidate for the above-mentioned fixed term position.

MAIN PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE:

The University of Fort Hare (UFH) has been issued audit findings as a result of the quality of its fixed asset data and the underlying asset register not being International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) compliant. The project aims to ensure the development of a fully compliant IFRS asset register fit for all UFH’s asset management operational needs. Furthermore, it will enhance the adherence to the relevant reporting requirements and implementation using the ITS system of the University. The position will require the incumbent to do intercampus travel and all establishments with University assets.

Job Description

Key Functional/ Technical Competencies:

  • Manage the Asset Register project:
  • Ensure that:100% physical asset verification is done
  • Tagging of assets with barcodes is done
  • Inventory lists in all rooms are put up
  • Asset Condition assessment is performed
  • Ensure that verified movable assets are populated into the Fixed Asset Register
  • Ensure that verified immovable assets are populated into the Fixed Asset Register
  • Reassessment for useful lives and residual values as per the UFH asset policy and IFRS requirements
  • Develop the IFRS compliant fixed asset register 
  • Steer the IFRS reporting for first year transition from Excel to ITS Fixed Asset Register
  • Provide journals for any accounting changes arising from the project including possible prior year corrections

Inherent Criteria

Minimum Requirements and Competencies:

  • University degree in commerce/business/finance/accounting and/ or related field with honours or post graduate diploma (NQF L8)
  • Chartered Accountant CA (SA) and experience in the Higher Education Sector will be an added advantage.
  •  Equivalent industry and proven project management experience of at least 5 years in an asset management environment.
  • Computer literacy/Microsoft Excel proficient 
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and be deadline driven
  • Ability to multitask and liaise confidently verbally and in writing at all levels.
  • Aptitude for figures and logical approach to queries, service excellence focus, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ITS Integrator system will be added advantage.
  • Driver’s license is prerequisite considering the expectation of travel between campuses
