The Department of Mercantile Law is responsible for teaching several of the core modules in the specialised LLM programme in International Trade Law, compulsory and elective modules in the LLB curriculum, and service courses for other faculties. The modules in the specialised LLM programme in International Trade Law include International Sales Law, International Commercial Arbitration, Payments and Guarantees in International Contracts, and Carriage of Goods by Sea. The Department also has a strong focus on research within these fields, as well as other areas of Mercantile Law.
The Faculty of Law is looking to fill a vacancy in the Department of Mercantile Law. The main responsibility of the incumbent will be to contribute to excellence in the Faculty of Law. The incumbent will lecture primarily in particular aspects in the field of International Trade Law, but may also be required to fulfil further teaching responsibilities within the Department and Faculty, taking into account relevant factors. The incumbent will furthermore conduct research that broadly focuses on the International Trade Law and provide postgraduate supervision in that area of law. The incumbent must also contribute to the administrative functioning of the Faculty, and perform other duties as assigned by the Faculty.
Job Description
Duties:
- Lecturing two modules in the specialised LLM programme in International Trade Law and also other law modules;
- Actively researching, writing and publishing in the assigned field(s) of law;
- Postgraduate supervision;
- Contributing to the administrative functioning of the Faculty;
- Performing such other duties as assigned by the Faculty.
Inherent Criteria
Job Requirements:
- LLD or an appropriate PhD (for appointment as Professor, Associate Professor, or Senior Lecturer);
- An established publication record (for appointment as Professor or Associate Professor), or at least some publications (for appointment as Senior Lecturer);
- Experience in postgraduate mentorship and supervision (for appointment as Professor, Associate Professor, or Senior Lecturer);
- Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Recommendations:
- A strong interest in research;
- Good interpersonal relationships;
- Teaching experience in other areas of Mercantile Law at undergraduate or postgraduate level;
- Legal practical experience;
- Multilingualism;
- Strong academic record.
