Job Description

Duties:

  • Leading and managing teaching on the MBA Project Management stream modules of Project Portfolio Finance, Project Portfolio Management and/or Project Innovations;
  • Supervising postgraduate research at the MBA, Master's, and PhD-level, commensurate with the level of appointment;
  • Managing programmes, including renewal and continuous improvement activities in Project Portfolio Management related modules; student admission, progression, and success on specific project management programmes;
  • Managing and coordinating the delivery of the modules within the postgraduate programmes in on-campus, Hyflex learning and online learning environments; 
  • Developing and strengthening industry relationships and managing executive education and other academic relationships;
  • Developing a research publication agenda and collaborations to publish in international peer-reviewed journals;  
  • Promoting the social impact of Stellenbosch Business School through teaching and research;
  • Supervising postgraduate research at the Master's and PhD-levels, commensurate with the level of appointment;
  • Participating in the administration of some departmental activities.

Inherent Criteria

Job Requirements:

(For appointment as a Lecturer):

  • Master's degree or MBA with primary focus on Project Management;
  • Relevant Project Portfolio experience, specifically in Project Finance, in the private and/or public sector, along with project management and/or consulting experience;
  • Some experience in teaching, delivery, assessment and student support at postgraduate level in the relevant subject area;
  • Research potential and/or demonstrable ongoing commitment to professional enhancement, scholarship, and publications in the field of Project / Programme / Portfolio Management; 
  • Quantitative and qualitative evidence of teaching experience, including video streaming and online collaboration systems;
  • Good organisational and personal management skills;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong networks within the project management industry and industry bodies.

(For appointment as a Senior Lecturer):

  • PhD in the field of Project / Programme / Portfolio Management;
  • Relevant Project Portfolio experience, specifically in Project Finance, in the private and/or public sector, along with project management and/or consulting experience;
  • An established record of research and research publication in nationally and internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals;
  • Successfully completed postgraduate supervision at Master's level;
  • Experience of teaching and the scholarship of teaching relevant to Project Management;
  • Commitment to creating impact through research and scholarship;
  • Commitment to engaging in academic administration activities;
  • Quantitative and qualitative evidence of teaching experience, including video streaming and online collaboration systems; 
  • Good organisational and personal management skills;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong networks within the project management industry and industry bodies.

(For appointment as an Associate Professor):

  • PhD in the field of Project / Programme / Portfolio Management;
  • Relevant project portfolio experience, specifically in project finance, in the private and/or public sector, along with project management and/or consulting experience;
  • National and international recognition as a researcher;
  • A sustained record of research and research publications in nationally and internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals relevant to Project Management;
  • A record of past research and a future research agenda relevant to Development Finance;
  • Participation in appropriate external professional activities;
  • Supervision and examination at PhD and Master's levels;
  • Teaching and the scholarship of teaching relevant to Project Management, with evidence of or potential for academic leadership of postgraduate programmes;
  • Commitment to creating impact through research and scholarship;
  • Academic management and leadership skills;
  • Quantitative and qualitative evidence of teaching experience;
  • Good organisational and personal management skills;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Recommendation:

  • (Depending on appointment level):
  • Experience in the design and development of module content and supervising postgraduate students;
  • Postgraduate programme management experience, including student recruitment and admission in a business school and/or executive education environment; 
  • Proven experience of portfolio delivery, including providing portfolio development, project finance and portfolio governance;
  • Proven experience of translating business analysis, requirements definitions and business case production into practical project portfolio implementation;
  • Membership of and active participation in a relevant professional project management body (e.g., PMI, APM or PRINCE2®, preferably Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP®).
