The incumbent will be part of the Mathematics Division in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and will teach Mathematics to students selected for the Extended Curriculum Programmes. These programmes include a foundation year as preparation for their first year of their various programmes in the Faculties of Science, Engineering and AgriSciences.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Teaching Introductory Mathematics offered as part of the Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) in collaboration with a team responsible for the ECP offered by the Faculty of Science;
  • Developing, coordinating, and supervision of learning, teaching, and assessment activities (including tutorials);
  • Continuous development of the curriculum for appropriate integration with programmes in science, engineering, and agrisciences;
  • Involvement with the first-year Mathematics modules.

Inherent Criteria

Job Requirements:

  • A PhD in Mathematics or Mathematics Education;
  • Proven record of teaching experience in undergraduate Mathematics;
  • Experience and skills in teaching students requiring additional support;
  • Experience using educational technology;
  • Good communication skills;
  • The ability to fluently present lectures in both English and Afrikaans.

For appointment as Senior Lecturer:

  • Proven record of lecturing and assessment of undergraduate Mathematics;
  • Experience as a module convenor or coordinator;
  • Proven record of curriculum development;
  • Evidence of a research profile in Mathematics and/or Mathematics Education and/or scholarly teaching in Mathematics;
  • Evidence of significant professional development in teaching and learning;
  • Involvement in initiatives to advance Mathematics as subject.

 Recommendations:

  • Knowledge of the school syllabus in Mathematics.
