Senior Analyst (Job Level 8)

The Information Technology Division of Stellenbosch University is in need of a senior analyst. The incumbent must be user-centric, have strong analytical, problem-solving and design thinking abilities with a diverse knowledge across IT and Higher Education to assist the University in modernising and sustaining their current ICT landscape. The incumbent will work closely with the Solution and Domain Architects and institutional stakeholders to understand their needs and objectives to add value to the institution by defining and implementing suitable solutions.
The senior analyst will report to the lead solutions architect who will lead the solution architects and analyst team responsible for the architecture processes (e.g., Architecture Development Method) and governance (e.g., Architecture Design Authority) to ensure the outcome is aligned to the objectives of the University and the stakeholders.
Job Description
Duties:
- Collecting, analysing and writing specifications (functional and non-functional) and business cases (when required);
- Performing quality assurance reviews on requirements or other outputs;
- Working in groups and teams;
- Facilitating analysis and requirements workshops;
- Engaging in proactive problem-solving;
- Interacting with administrative, academic and technical role-players;
- Assisting with training, project management, change management and specification reviews;
- Working on projects that can involve multiple systems and processes with interfaces to external and internal projects, as well as on small to medium risk projects;
- Owning and developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Constantly searching for ways to improve monitoring, discover issues and deliver better value to the customer.
Inherent Criteria
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems (or a relevant field or equivalent) with at least six years' experience, OR a diploma in Business Analysis with at least eight years' practical experience as a business analyst, OR Matric (N4) with at least ten years' practical experience as a business analyst;
Proven skills in and knowledge of:
- Modelling and analytical tools and methodologies;
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of multiple business areas and systems;
- Proven knowledge of information systems and technology in order to be able to interpret technology for business users and business needs for technologists;
Personal attributes:
- Creative, innovative;
- Analytical;
- Self-starter;
- Inquisitive;
- Good networker;
- Seeker of knowledge;
- Demonstrated insight into the uses of the internet;
- Intensive user of the internet.
Recommendation:
Three or more years' experience of working in a higher education institution with exposure to the workings of a university.
