BACKGROUND TO POSITION:
The Professor is responsible for teaching and learning practices in their specific subject area. It’s expected from a Professor to play a leadership role in terms of research guidance and output in the Natural and Rehabilitative Science Department. The Professor is to provide supervision to post graduate students (Honours, master's and PhD) in department. The Professor will also be required to assist in administrative duties within the Natural and Rehabilitative Science Department and Faculty of Health Sciences. The Professor reports to the Head of Department.
Job Description
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Responsibilities include:
- Provide academic leadership in research, curriculum design, development and implementation,
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate programs,
- Develop postgraduate programs and supervise students,
- Undertake publishable academic research,
- Participate in community engagement integrated with teaching and/or research,
- Perform academic leadership and related administrative duties,
- Secure external research grants and establish programmes.
Inherent Criteria
Additional requirements:- Evidence of successful fundraising for research-related activities in the field of Speech- Language Pathology/Therapy,
- Evidence of academic leadership and/or mentoring emerging researchers,
- Evidence of attracting and working with post-doctoral fellows will be an added advantage,
- Evidence of professional and academic standing in the field of Speech-Language Pathology/Therapy,
- Recognition as a leading scholar in a chosen area of research (e.g. NRF rating; international keynote/plenaries) will be an added advantage.
Qualifications
- Doctoral Degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Therapy.
- Professional registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Experience
- At least 7 years’ experience in higher education for a Full Professor and 5 years for Associate Professor with extensive teaching, curriculum development and research experience in Speech-Language Pathology/Therapy.
- Track record of research publications commensurate with the academic rank level of a Full Professor/ Associate Professor.
- Extensive successful postgraduate Masters and Doctoral supervision.
