BACKGROUND TO POSITION:

The Professor/Associate Professor is responsible for teaching and learning practices in their specific subject area. The incumbent is expected to play a leadership role in terms of research guidance and output in the Human Movement Science Department. The Professor/Associate Professor is to provide supervision to post graduate students (Honors, Master and PhD) in the department. The Professor/Associate Professor will also be required to assist in administrative duties within the Human Movement Science Department and Faculty of Health Sciences. The Professor/Associates reports to the Head of Department.

Job Description

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

KPA 1A:  Teaching undergraduate courses

  • Using appropriate teaching, learning and assessment methods for undergraduate courses,
  • All administrative task relating to teaching, learning and assessment such as course evaluation and submitting of marks for undergraduate courses,
  • Practical classes/courses as related to subject area.

KPA 1B:  Teaching postgraduate courses

  • Using appropriate teaching, learning and assessment methods for postgraduate courses,
  • All administrative task relating to teaching, learning and assessment such as course evaluation and submitting of marks for
  • postgraduate courses,
  • Practical classes/courses as related to subject area.

KPA 2:  Research

  • Providing research supervision to post graduate student (Hons, Masters, PhD),
  • Write successful research grants,
  • Produce and publish articles in national/ international peer reviewed DHET accredited journals,
  • Attend and present research findings at national and international conferences,
  • Review journal papers for accredited journals (Editorial Board of Journals),
  • Review external research grant proposals.

KPA 3: Administrative Task

  • Contribute to departmental/faculty and University Administration,
  • Take on Committee Chair roles.

KPA 4: Community Engagement

  • Plan and address community engagement activities.

Inherent Criteria

Qualifications:
  • PhD in Human Movement Sciences or related field.
Experience
  • A minimum of 7 years’ teaching and research at tertiary level for the Professor position. 5 years’ teaching and research at tertiary level for the Associate Professor position.
