Faculty of Management and Public Administration Sciences

Butterworth Campus

The Walter Sisulu University seeks dynamic and visionary academics to support the executive deans in leading the various faculties in the university. The faculties must be positioned strategically for pursuing the strategic goals of the University. The Deputy Executive Deans will be responsible for supporting the Executive Deans in providing strategic direction and managing the faculties as well as aligning the work it does with the strategic objectives of the University.

Job Description

The portfolio has several critical components which include:

  • Supporting the Executive Dean in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the WSU Strategy in the faculty, considering the multi-campus nature and national imperatives. 
  • Managing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in all programmes. 
  • Managing faculty academic administration and governance portfolio.
  • Maintain accreditation of all programmes and liaise with internal stakeholders and the regulation and professional bodies when required. 
  • Monitor the work of all Faculty Committees: Higher Degrees Research & Innovation, Research Ethics, Community Engagement, Continuing Professional Development, Intensive Research Projects, and Quality Assurance.
  • Oversee off-campus teaching, Work Integrated Learning, School Based Education where applicable.
  • Deputise the Executive Dean in all activities.

Inherent Criteria

Inherent requirements:

  • A Doctorate in any discipline related to the faculty. 
  • A minimum of eight (8) years' relevant experience in the higher-education sector, of which five (5) years must have been in a leadership role including the Head of Department position in a university.
  • Proven research record.
  • Must be a professor/ associate professor or appointable as professor/ associate professor at Walter Sisulu University.
  • A master’s qualification in the relevant field and a relevant professional registration.
  • A Doctorate qualification will be an added advantage. 
  • A minimum of eight (8) years' relevant experience in the higher-education sector, of which five (5) years must have been a Head of Department position in a university.
  • Proven research record.
  • Must be a professor/associate professor or appointable as professor/associate professor at Walter Sisulu University.
