Background to Position

The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is a large and dynamic department with over thirty permanent academic staff. We seek to make two new appointments in any area of Pure or Applied Mathematics at the level of Lecturer. We are particularly interested in candidates who will complement or strengthen existing areas of research in the Department, which include Algebra, (Functional) Analysis, Category Theory, Classical and Quantum Chaos, Computational Complexity, Cosmology, General Relativity, Graph Theory, Homology, Lie Theory, Mathematics Education, Nonlinear Dynamics, String Theory, and Topology. Job Description

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Mathematics (within and beyond the Faculty of Science).
  • Developing and pursuing an active research program, including supervising postgraduate students.
  • Course convening, departmental and faculty administrative duties.

Inherent Criteria

Requirements for these positions: 

  • A PhD (in Pure Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, or a related field) at the time of appointment, 
  • A record of research that indicates strong potential in the field, including publications in ISI accredited peer reviewed journals and conference attendance, and,
  • Experience lecturing pure or applied mathematics at undergraduate level, including evidence of effectiveness as a teacher, and the ability to teach a range of courses in pure and/or applied mathematics at both introductory and senior undergraduate level (including service courses) and give specialist lectures at Honours (4th year) level.
