The Division of Medical Ethics and law (DMEL) at Stellenbosch University (SU) is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic individual with appropriate training, experience and skills to coordinate and strengthen the activities of research projects in the DMEL. Job Description

Duties:

  • Processing, organising and summarising data using a variety of scientific, word processing, referencing and statistical software applications;
  • Providing technical support related to formulating online questionnaires and the design and implementation of online teaching tools;
  • Conducting scoping reviews;
  • Scheduling and conducting interviews and/or focus group discussions, in person or virtually, as per requirements of research projects;
  • Assisting with the formulation of transcripts and coding related to qualitative research projects;
  • Managing the daily activities of research projects, including procurement;
  • Maintaining the research group website and social media pages;
  • Liaising with collaborators and funders, and providing assistance where necessary;
  • Writing draft articles and updating SOP’s;
  • Assisting researchers with literature searches;
  • Performing all duties within the context of the Mission, Vision and Values Statement of Stellenbosch University.

Inherent Criteria

Requirements:

  • A relevant Master's degree in bioethics (MBChB or equivalent);
  • Experience with human (qualitative / quantitative) research;
  • Experience with online research and data analysis – Atlas/NVivo;
  • Demonstrated expertise in advanced writing and editing skills;
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise with MS office and statistical software use;
  • The ability to multitask and work under pressure;
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, including communication, strong client orientation and organisational skills;
  • A strong sense of responsibility and eagerness to learn;
  • Initiative, the ability to prioritise work, and to work independently;
  • Accuracy with completion of assignments and tasks;
  • Proper time management;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Recommendations:

  • PhD or equivalent;
  • Experience in a higher education environment;
  • Language proficiency in Afrikaans and/or isiXhosa; 
  • Familiarity with SU’s plagiarism policy,
