The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at Stellenbosch University (SU) is well established in the fields of structural mechanics, noise and vibration, mechanical design, mechatronics, energy systems, heat transfer and thermo-fluid dynamics (including renewable energy).
Job Description
Duties:
A position, aimed at training a young, South African, academic staff member, is available. The incumbent will have to register for their PhD (part-time) in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at SU at the first available opportunity after joining the Department. The incumbent’s chosen PhD field of study must be in the field of ThermoFluid systems. The incumbent will typically spend three days per week on PhD studies. Two days per week will be devoted to work in the Department that can include academic and/or technical support. This departmental work will not necessarily be related to the PhD research, but must be in support of the Voigt Chair in ThermoFluid Systems Modelling.
Inherent Criteria
Requirements:
- An ECSA accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) degree in mechanical or mechatronic engineering, or equivalent;
- A MEng (research) degree in mechanical or mechatronic engineering, or equivalent, ORproof that the candidate is registered for the degree. If the degree is not yet awarded, a copy of the final, submitted thesis must be provided three days before the oral interview. Proof of submission must also be provided;
- Good communication and teaching skills;
- The ability to effectively teach in English;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Proven research skills.
Recommendations:
- Willingness to work in a multilingual environment;
- Proven teaching experience;
- Proven experience as laboratory engineer.
