The Division of Health Systems and Public Health is located within the Department of Global Health in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Division undertakes a range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research activities related to the field of health systems and public health.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Teaching
  • Leading the PGDip health care management programme;
  • Screening and recruiting postgraduate students;
  • Developing, delivering and assessing public health and health systems’ content, with specific emphasis on health management academic content.
  • Research
  • Supervising postgraduate students’ research at master’s level; 
  • Conducting research and disseminating research findings;
  • Securing funding to support relevant research.

Service roles and responsibilities:

  • Participating in activities of the Division of Health Systems and Public Health and contributing to the Department and Division’s strategy;
  • Contributing to sustaining and growing health systems, public health and health management teaching and learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Inherent Criteria

Requirements:

  • A healthcare professional with a master’s degree focusing on health systems management or health care management, or equivalent;
  • Experience in facilitating learning health care management at postgraduate level;
  • A teaching portfolio reflecting quantitative and qualitative teaching performance which displays evidence of the scholarship of teaching relevant to the level of the academic rank, as well as teaching and learning contributions on modular level;
  • Project management skills, communication and networking skills.

Recommendations:

  • A PhD will be advantageous;
  • Health care practice and management experience;
  • Postgraduate programme management experience, including student recruitment and admission;
  • Evidence of research experience, including a good publication record in peer-reviewed journals, securing research grants, and academic collaboration;
  • Evidence of experience in mentorship and postgraduate supervision (including honours and master’s research assignments).
