Job Description
Duties:
Associate Professor:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in Mathematics Education, with both primary and high school focus;
- Engaging in research in Mathematics Education and related fields;
- Publishing research in reputable academic and peer-reviewed journals;
- Supervising postgraduate students in Mathematics Education and related fields;
- Participating in social impact projects in Mathematics Education and rendering appropriate services to the University and teaching community;
- Contributing to academic administration and leadership in the discipline, Department and Faculty.
Inherent Criteria
Requirements:
Associate Professor:
- A strong background in Mathematics (Mathematics 3 or equivalent);
- A relevant PhD with Mathematics Education as the focus;
- A teaching qualification;
- Evidence of strong and current publications in peer-reviewed journals;
- Evidence of postgraduate supervision at Honours, Master’s and Doctoral level in Mathematics Education and other related fields;
- Experience in teaching Mathematics Education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Senior Lecturer:
- A strong background in Mathematics (Mathematics 3 or equivalent);
- A relevant PhD with Mathematics Education as the focus;
- A teaching qualification;
- Evidence of strong and current publications in peer-reviewed journals;
- Evidence of postgraduate supervision at Honours, Master’s and Doctoral level in Mathematics Education and related fields;
- Experience in teaching Mathematics Education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Lecturer:
- A strong background in Mathematics (Mathematics 3 or equivalent);
- A relevant master’s degree with Mathematics Education as the focus;
- A teaching qualification;
- Evidence of potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals (e.g., other publications, conference proceedings, excellent marks for master’s research dissertation);
- Evidence or willingness to supervise postgraduate students at Honours level in Mathematics Education and related fields;
- Experience in teaching Mathematics Education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Recommendations:
Associate Professor:
- Experience and/or knowledge of technology-aided education;
- National Research Foundation (NRF) rating;
- Departmental and/or Faculty leadership and management experience.
Senior Lecturer:
- Experience and/or knowledge of technology-aided education.
Lecturer:
- Experience and/or knowledge of technology-aided education;
- A PhD will be an added advantage for the Lecturer.
