Job Description

Duties: 

  • Delivering or teaching assigned development finance modules and related modules within other postgraduate programmes in the Business School.
  • Collaborating with staff to create and deliver a transformative learning experience for students in development finance and generally for students at the Business School.   
  • Publishing and disseminating research in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals, high-impact books, and cases.
  • Through teaching and research. promoting the social impact of Stellenbosch Business School.
  • Supervising postgraduate research at master’s and PhD-levels.
  • Actively engaging and participating in Stellenbosch University’s activities and Business School life.

Inherent Criteria

Requirements: 

(For appointment as a Senior Lecturer): 

  • A PhD in the field of development finance, finance, or economics awarded by a recognised university.
  • Experience in teaching, delivery, assessment, and student support at the postgraduate level in the relevant subject area.
  • Experience in the design and development of module content.
  • Established record of research, or publication in nationally and internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals.
  • Successfully completed postgraduate supervision.
  • Good organisational and personal management skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Commitment to creating impact through research and scholarship.

For appointment as an Associate Professor): 

  • PhD in the field of development finance, finance, or economics awarded by a recognised university.
  • National and international recognition as a researcher.
  • A sustained record of research and research publications in nationally and internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals.
  • A record of past research and a future research agenda relevant to development finance; 
  • Supervision and examination at PhD and master's levels.
  • Teaching and the scholarship of teaching relevant to development finance, with evidence of, or potential for academic leadership of postgraduate programmes.
  • Commitment to creating impact through research and scholarship.
  • Academic management and leadership skills.
  • Quantitative and qualitative evidence of teaching experience. 
  • Good organisational and personal management skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Evidence of commitment to creating impact through research and scholarship.
