The Division of Health Systems and Public Health is located within the Department of Global Health in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Division undertakes a range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research activities related to the disciplines of health systems and public health, including in the field of health care management. For this position we will focus on candidates who have training and experience in public health and/or health systems and health care management. The incumbent will be expected to participate in the full range of academic activities associated with offering quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and will be expected to participate in and build a research portfolio in line with the Division’s priority research areas.

Job Description

Duties:

Teaching and Research

  • Coordinating the Postgraduate Diploma in the health care management programme. 
  • Actively involved in developing and teaching public health and health systems content, with specific emphasis on health management academic content, and undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Research supervision in the focus areas of the Division and Faculty.
  • Research and publishing results in accredited national and international journals. 
  • Promoting dissemination of research findings beyond publication.
  • Participating in divisional projects and social impact activities.
  • Securing funding to support relevant research.
  • Performing general academic administration and management.

Inherent Criteria

Requirements:

  • Master’s-level degree in public health and / health systems / epidemiology, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of, and experience in health systems management or health care management theory and practice. 
  • Proven experience in university teaching.
  • Evidence of experience in mentorship and postgraduate supervision (at master’s level).
  • Evidence of teaching experience at undergraduate or postgraduate levels.
  • Project management, communication and networking skills.

Recommendations:

  • PhD, or currently completing a PhD, will be an added advantage.
  • Postgraduate programme management experience. 
  • Evidence of independent research experience and publications / outputs. Evidence of successfully completed postgraduate supervision (including honours and master’s research assignments).
