The appointment is on the joint establishment of SU and the Western Cape Government, Department of Health, on the conditions of service of the University.
Job Description
Duties:
- Anchoring the teaching and training of palliative care and providing an academic home while collaborating with interdisciplinary expertise available in the Faculty.
- Coordinating and providing training in palliative care within the MBChB curriculum.
- Providing postgraduate training in palliative care, e.g. registrars in family medicine and in other disciplines where the need arises.
- Supporting palliative care teaching and training within other disciplines such as nursing and rehabilitation.
- Developing relevant research and new evidence in the field of palliative care
- Providing clinical care in the field of palliative care within Metro East, Metro Health Services.
- Supporting the Metro Health Services in development of palliative care services within Metro East.
Inherent Criteria
Requirements:
- Registered as a medical practitioner with the HPCSA.
- A postgraduate qualification in palliative care.
- Experience in undergraduate or postgraduate clinical teaching or training.
- Clinical experience in the field of palliative care.
Recommendations:
- Registered as a family medicine specialist with the HPCSA.
- A master’s degree in the field of palliative care.
- Successful completion of at least one research study.
