The appointment is on the joint establishment of SU and the Western Cape Government, Department of Health, on the conditions of service of the University.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Anchoring the teaching and training of palliative care and providing an academic home while collaborating with interdisciplinary expertise available in the Faculty.
  • Coordinating and providing training in palliative care within the MBChB curriculum.
  • Providing postgraduate training in palliative care, e.g. registrars in family medicine and in other disciplines where the need arises.
  • Supporting palliative care teaching and training within other disciplines such as nursing and rehabilitation.
  • Developing relevant research and new evidence in the field of palliative care 
  • Providing clinical care in the field of palliative care within Metro East, Metro Health Services.
  • Supporting the Metro Health Services in development of palliative care services within Metro East.

Inherent Criteria

Requirements: 

  • Registered as a medical practitioner with the HPCSA.
  • A postgraduate qualification in palliative care. 
  • Experience in undergraduate or postgraduate clinical teaching or training.
  • Clinical experience in the field of palliative care.

Recommendations:

  • Registered as a family medicine specialist with the HPCSA.
  • A master’s degree in the field of palliative care.
  • Successful completion of at least one research study.
