The Department of Logistics is one of several departments within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at Stellenbosch University, and is also the oldest tertiary academic department in South Africa to provide education in transport economics and logistics.
The Department houses the disciplines of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Business Analytics and Transport Economics and is the only department at a South African university fully offering the various disciplines integrated in one department.
This position needs to be filled by an incumbent who possesses a solid understanding of Transport Economics. The incumbent must be able to combine theoretical insights with practical problem-solving to contribute effectively to sustainable transport and economic development initiatives.
Job Description
Duties:
- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in transport economics.
- Postgraduate research supervision.
- Subject-related research and publication.
- Providing relevant services to the University and the community.
Inherent Criteria
Requirements:
- A master’s degree in transport economics from a recognised university.
- Research experience and relevant publications in the field of transport economics; and/or
- At least three years’ industry experience within the private or public sector; and/or
- Teaching experience within the field of transport economics.
- The ability to teach in a multilingual environment.
Short-listed candidates (those invited for interviews) may be expected to present a lecture on a designated topic to academic staff of the Department of Logistics.
Recommendations:
- Specialisation areas: Transport and Economic Development; Transport Competition and Regulation; Urban, Regional and Spatial Economics; and Internasional Trade.
- Adequate knowledge of transportation modes: road, aviation, maritime, rail and pipeline.
- Key skills include forecasting, economic evaluation and spatial and transport data analytics and transport modelling.
- Practical knowledge of GIS applications.
