Job Description
- Doctoral Degree in Agriculture
- At least ten years of experience in research and teaching in research
- An outstanding research record of accredited publications. At least ten (associate professor) or fifteen (full professor) publications in accredited peer-reviewed journals. Book publication or chapters in a book
- Strong evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students
- General, academic and research; and leadership experience
- Have a profile that justifies appointment at Senior lecturer/Associate
- Professor/Professor levels in any discipline of agriculture
- NRF rating
- Ability to secure external research funding and be able to generate sufficient operational funds within the first three years of appointment to the position.
Inherent Criteria
- Improving research infrastructure/facilities in the School of Agriculture, through coordination and submission of response to NRF and other calls for equipment grants
- Strengthening coordinated use of scientific equipment in the School for interdepartmental productive research that would benefit student, staff and agro industries
- Supervision/co-supervision and promotion/co-promotion of masters and doctoral candidates, respectively, through inter-disciplinarily /trans-disciplinary
- Provide training in research and innovation support to the School of Agriculture. This will involve capacity development of postgraduate students (including postdoctoral fellows). Promote and organize academic research seminars and research workshops for staff and students.
- Facilitating training in statistical analysis applicable to Agricultural Sciences and Rural development
- Promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research among students and academics
- Coordinate agricultural science-based conference for the School with the aim of enhancing peer-review publication in DHET accredited journal(s)
- Regularly publishing research findings in accredited journals and books and lead research teams
- Developing national and international partnerships and linkages with universities, research institutions, community structures and/or engage in other collaborative research projects
- To obtain, where possible, external funding for research and community engagement activities.
