 The position is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training under the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) and the successful candidate will be subject to the terms and conditions of the programme whilst being a permanent staff member of the University of the Free State.  Applicants should be under the age of 40.  For more information on the programme, the nGAP Standard Operating Procedure is available on request.

Job Description

Establishing a Paediatric Research Centre of Excellence and inspiring a culture of research   excellence in the department.

  • Forming interdisciplinary research collaborations and creating a platform for multidisciplinary research in maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health.
  • Ensuring qualitative and quantitative research outputs; through support in proposal-writing, developing data collection tools and research competencies.
  • Increasing the number of PhD qualified staff within the scope of paediatrics.
  • Acting as a clinical facilitator within the RMNCH-Umbrella project in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
  • Facilitating all clinical inputs, relevant research and projects within maternal, neonate, child and adolescent health, with the primary vision to decrease mortality and morbidity according to the Sustainable Development Goals 2030

  • Knowledge of online referencing systems, e.g. Mendeley, and other online platforms to   assist in data collection and data capturing, e.g. Evasys, RedCap®.

Inherent Criteria

  • A relevant Master's degree on NQF level 9 in any Health Sciences or Clinical Health related field.
  • Required to enroll for a PhD at the first available opportunity after the appointment if PhD not already obtained or not already registered for a PhD by the time of appointment.
  • Required to participate in the Staffing South Africa's Universities Development Programme (SSAU-DP) as part of the nGAP program.

Recommendations:

  • Be in possession of a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate (attach a copy)
  • Training in Research Ethics, e.g. TRREE (Training and Resources in Research Ethics Evaluation) certificate obtained (attach a copy).
  • Presentation of oral or posters at local, national or international conferences.
