Job Description

  • Strategic direction and alignment to the division
  • Manage the general ledger and assets of the University as well as ensuring compliance with the International Financial Reporting Standards. 
  • Prepare the Annual Financial Statements (AFS).
  • Ensure the effective and efficient management of the division’s finances and resources
  • Implement the Financial Business Partner strategy in the University.
  • Design and maintain effective budget and forecast models as well ensure the implementation of an effective budget management policy.
  • Supervise the preparation of annual budgets and present them to the Finance Committee of Council and Council.
  • Manage the internal and external audit processes.
  • Assume responsibility for the correct functioning of all accounting and reporting systems in collaboration with the IT team.
  • Promote sound institutional governance, participate in required governance structures and serve as member on required forums.   
  • Ensure compliance to the tax legislation for the university and all its subsidiaries and associates.
  • Manage financial risks and the portfolio’s risks.
  • Perform financial analysis and management in respect of researchers’ accounts and cost centres
  • Foster and maintain strategic alliances with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with University policies and managing both Human and Financial Resources within the directorate. 
  • Undertake continuous financial reporting to the Management Executive Committee, the Finance Committee of Council and the Audit and Risk Committee of Council.
  • Oversee staff development and management (including recruitment, performance management, development, reward and retention).

Inherent Criteria

  • An Honours degree in Accounting, Financial Management or similar.
  • A registered Accountant with a recognised accounting body such as ACCA/CIA/CIMA/SAIBA/SAICA/SAIPA or similar.
  • Ten years relevant experience of which five should be in a managerial position. 
  • Seven years proven exposure in the preparation of consolidated financial statements, management reports and the management of financial systems.
  • A high level of communication efficiency and effectiveness
  • Higher education
