Job Description
Duties and responsibilities:
- Lecture Analytical Chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Conduct research in Analytical/Biogeochemistry and produce quality research outputs, with emphasis on isotope analysis.
- Develop a strong isotope analysis research group/area.
- Provide study guidance to postgraduate students.
- Participate in research that will be nationally and internationally recognised.
- Write and publish research articles based on research results.
- Manage and maintain all equipment related to the isotope laboratory.
- Train postgraduate students on the data collection and interpretation of isotope analysis data.
- Produce isotope analytical services to the campus and industry.
- Obtain research funding from industry, parastatals, and international grants.
- Perform administrative tasks and other departmental and faculty activities.
- Manage different aspects of Chemical Sciences on National and International levels (crystallography in particular).
Inherent Criteria
Inherent requirements:
Senior Lecturer:
- A PhD in Chemistry specialising in Analytical or Bio-geochemistry Chemistry on NQF level 10.
- Proven experience in presenting papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
- Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
- An NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
- Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students.
- A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
- Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
- Lecturing experience in Analytical or Bio-geochemistry Chemistry at a higher education level.
- Comprehensive experience in operating, managing, and maintaining state-of-the-art ICP-MS, OCP-OES, XRD, XRF, SEM-EDS, etc.
- Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary environments, including Biology, Geochemistry, Chemistry, Geology, and Environmental Science
- Proven experience of working in an established isotope laboratory
- Proven research record in the publication of research papers in ISI-accredited journals with emphasis on Biogeochemistry, analytical chemistry, and other multidisciplinary fields.
