The Centre for the Study of the Afterlife of Violence and the Reparative Quest (AVReQ) is an interdisciplinary centre in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Stellenbosch University that focuses on the enduring legacies of violence and questions of repair. Its work brings together research and postgraduate teaching on themes including historical trauma, memory, cultural heritage and critical heritage studies, with a strong emphasis on decolonial thought and Global South perspectives. The Centre currently offers an MPhil in Violent Histories and Repair and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, public-facing scholarship and international research partnerships.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit a teaching portfolio or teaching statement (maximum 2 500 words) and to present a 30-minute job lecture on a topic relevant to “Violent Histories and Repair” followed by a Q&A.
